A large percentage of our membership are people who have retired and are looking for a way to stay active and the feeling of community and friendship that comes with being part of an archery club.

As an enthusiastic coach and archer, Ged Laing of Ayr Archery Club in South Ayrshire, has been supporting various care homes over the past couple of months by delivering soft archery sessions to residents. This has allowed older adults the opportunity to have a go of archery within their care home setting and experience the positive physical and mental health benefits of the sport.

Late last year, MRM Archery in East Kilbride, Scotland, was approached by Boris, a teacher at Ochil Tower School. The school teaches children and young adults at the school aged between 8 and 21 who have moderate, severe or complex needs, and are often on the autistic spectrum.

All Archery GB members were invited to join the club members, arranged in 2-hour sign-up slots, the archers could sign up for one slot or multiple slots throughout the 24-hour period.

When Daniel was in school, everyone told his mum that he was naughty and that they didn't know how to deal with him. His mum, Theresa, tried to get him into an after-school activity, hoping it would help. He tried gymnastics for three years but was sent out of class every week for being "naughty and disruptive" and "not listening to his teachers". So, he tried swimming for four terms, and his teachers said the same thing - disruptive, uncontrollable, doesn't listen.
