Would you like to introduce soft archery to your school or community group? We have soft archery courses for teachers and young leaders to give you the skills to deliver this fun and inclusive sport.
Arrows Archery is designed to be delivered by teachers and sports coordinators through the support of easy-to-use resources and activity cards. No formal training is required to deliver Arrows Archery, but we do have an Introduction to Soft Archery Course if extra support is required.
The Introduction to Soft Archery Course provides attendees with a practical opportunity to familiarise themselves with the equipment, shooting technique, and activities included in soft archery. This course supports teachers and adults in their delivery of soft archery to young people.
For more information, please email gayle.pink@archerygb.org
At the end of the course, learners will be able to deliver soft archery sessions using the Arrows equipment and resources or similar soft archery kits.
They will also be able to identify and teach basic skills, including;
The Soft Archery Young Leaders Award offers young people aged 14 - 19 their first experience of coaching archery. It prepares young leaders to organise safe, enjoyable, and purposeful soft archery sessions for 7 - 11-year-olds, using Arrows equipment or similar. The course also helps young leaders to become the driving force behind setting up and running their own soft archery club, with the support of staff:
In Birmingham, Archery GB Legacy Co-ordinator Jamila Bi has been working with Yardleys School to deliver SEND sessions along with the Young Leaders Award which has now enabled the school to set up their own archery club as part of their enrichment activity.
Jamila said: "It has been a true pleasure collaborating with Emma from Yardleys School in Birmingham to introduce archery to the students. Emma shares a deep commitment to providing opportunities for young people, and what better way to do so than through archery!
"After our initial discussions, it became clear that the students were eager for more regular archery sessions following the success of our have a go events. To support this enthusiasm, I conducted Young Leaders Award training for both students and staff, empowering them to establish their own archery club.
"It was inspiring to witness the students' passion for the sport and their focus in mastering it. This initiative not only ensures sustainability but also paves the way for future careers and leadership opportunities within the school."
Emma Perry, PE Lead at Yardleys, said: "At Yardleys we have continued to build on our extra curricular programme with the introduction of archery after watching Crescent Archers on BBC news. Jamila has been fantastic from the start, meeting us to find out what we needed and supporting us in every step to get us started.
"In the summer we led Start Archery Week and pupils have had fun, enjoyed learning something new and spending time with friends.
"Jamila has also started to arrange intra school competitions with other secondary schools in our collegiate and pupils have expressed a great interest in participating.
"We are going to continue with an archery club every week and aim to plan regular inter school competitions where our Young Archery Leaders can put their new skills into practice."
