A Welsh archery club has used a novel approach to raise awareness of Start Archery Week - by taking over a local charity shop.
Cambrian Archers, in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, was given use of a town centre charity shop for Start Archery Week to help raise funds for the club and to let people know about their Start Archery Week have-a-go event taking place on Sunday 12 May.
Volunteers from the club have been busy collecting things to sell and manning the shop during the week, and their hard work is paying off. It is expected that by the end of the week they will have raised in the region of £1,500 for the club.
Everyone who has come in has been given information about the club and the have a go session at the weekend, from 2-5pm at Dolwen Fields, Llanwrtyd Wells.
Suzanne Clifton, Secretary of Cambrian Archers, said: "It's been a fantastic week so far. It's lovely to see so many people are interested in archery, and we hope that they will all come over to Llanwrtyd Wells on Sunday to have a go. The opportunity to use this space to raise awareness of our club and archery in general has been great, and a real boost for our club finances too."
Vic Williams, Regional Development Officer for Wales, agrees. She added: "This innovative approach to Start Archery Week is really inspiring. It was great to spend the day with such dedicated club volunteers and hear them speaking so enthusiastically about archery and the benefits they themselves have gained from getting involved with the club. The have-a-go event will be a resounding success, I’m sure."
