Megan returns to place where Olympic journey began

Olympic archer Megan Havers has celebrated a special homecoming, returning to the holiday park where she first picked up a bow and arrow, nearly 10 years ago.

Megan, from Leicestershire, first tried archery with her grandad while on a family holiday, enjoying it so much that her parents booked her onto a beginners' course when she returned home.

Early this month, she returned to the same holiday park, Haven’s Church Farm, to host an archery have-a-go for holidaymakers.

Megan, who at 16 was the youngest archer at the Olympic Games, shared her expertise and passion for the sport, providing the guests with a rare opportunity to learn from a first-class athlete. The session featured one-on-one coaching, live demonstrations and an inspirational talk, where Megan discussed her journey from learning the sport at the holiday park to taking centre stage at one of the largest sporting competitions in the world where she finished an impressive 9th on her Games debut.

A spokesman from the park said: "We're delighted to have Megan back at Church Farm. From trying the sport for the first time nearly a decade ago here, to competing at the Olympics, her achievements are remarkable and given the fantastic feedback from the participants, we hope that she has inspired another generation to try their hand at archery."

Megan said: "It's brilliant to be back at the park where I first picked up a bow and arrow. I never thought that after my first archery session at Church Farm nine years ago, I'd be where I am today with the sport. I really enjoyed sharing my tips and tricks and I spotted a few budding archers in the making!"

After Megan completed her beginners' course at her local club she went on to shoot for her county and then country as a junior athlete in Archery GB's Pathway programme.
