A special school in Northern Ireland was transformed into a hub of cheers, competition, and unstoppable energy as students battled it out in the first-ever Special Education Schools Cup!
On 12 March, Castle Tower School in Ballymena, home to learners aged 3 to 19 with a wide range of additional needs, showed exactly what inclusive sport is all about: confidence, teamwork, joy, and pure determination.
The sports arena was buzzing as four archery-themed teams went head‑to‑head. They were called Bows, Bosses (archery target stands), Arrows and Flights.
After some impressive shooting, the aptly named Flights soared to victory with Bosses coming a close second and Arrows claiming the bronze.
Every student walked away with a medal, and a huge smile, thanks to a day filled with laughter, cheering, and unforgettable moments.
Martin Carey, teacher and archery instructor, summed up the day.
He said: "The event enthused and involved students that wouldn't always be motivated by PE. This event is the first step in continuing pupils' participation in sport outside of school."
Player of the Day was Aylissa who said: "It was an amazing day, I'd love to do it again within school. It was awesome!"
Lisa Wheeler, Archery GB's Sport Development Officer, said: "A huge thank you to The Worshipful Company of Fletchers' for providing all the medals and the trophy. Their support makes events like this possible."
